She is probably the answer to the XP-33 from X-Yachts. With the Salona 33, the yacht builders from Croatia are expanding their already densely packed range downwards and, after the Salona 34, are now once again serving the attractive market for performance cruisers with a hull length of around ten metres. A direct comparison with the XP-33 (test in YACHT 1/2013) reveals similar characteristics: The aft cockpit of the Salona 33 also has no seat thwarts. The tiller steering is mounted close to the stern and acts on the rudder shaft with cable pulls. This provides more space in the cockpit, allowing the helmsman and the mainsailer to work better and with a better overview. Salona offers an alternative to tiller steering with two rudder wheels - a rarity in this boat size.
Thanks to internal shrouds, Salona continues to rely on the variable sail plan with the option of a large genoa with 140 per cent overlap. This is an advantage for inland and light wind areas. The centreboard track runs through to the side of the jib. This means that the size of the headsail can be infinitely adjusted to the respective requirements.
Unlike the XP-33, the Salona 33 is not equipped with an extendable bowsprit. If you want to sail with a gennaker, a fixed trunk is attached to the bow. This can also be used with a code zero.
As a Salona trademark, the hull of the new ship is of course also reinforced with a stainless steel frame. It connects the forces from the rig and keel and thus relieves the structure of the hull. The deck and hull are built as a GRP sandwich construction and reinforced with carbon fibre components.
The standard model costs 101,030 euros. The dealer also offers two attractive equipment bundles. The "Cruising" package for an additional €17,260 equips the boat with a simple set of Dacron sails and numerous amenities for touring, such as an anchor holder on the bow with an electric winch, a cockpit table or a furling system for the genoa. The "Racing" package for an additional €21,275 includes a higher mast with rod rig, an IRC/ORC-optimised deep keel with lead bomb and better deck equipment with larger winches.
Below deck, the Salona 33 adopts the conservative but proven layout of its larger sister Salona 35 and its predecessor model Salona 34 with two cabins, a spacious wet room aft and a large forecastle that is also accessible from the inside. Variants of this layout are in the programme. The prototype of the Salona 33 is due to be unveiled next summer.
